The Alice Springs Telegraph Station, Alice Springs NT
“I always think about the women who took care of us when the war was on. The men were busy with war duties, so we only had the women there and they were just like mothers to us – I loved it and we were allowed to call them ‘mums. ’ At Easter, they would hide chocolate eggs in the long grass for us to search for. That was the best time for me and I remember running around as a kid, looking for Easter eggs and lollies in the bushes.”
