“My basic family history is English, Irish, Scottish and German. I know very little from my mother’s side; convicts didn’t have much choice to come out here but I have convicts on that side. I’m probably sixth or seventh generation Australian. I think in the early 1800s my family, like a lot of other Germans at that time, broke away from Lutheran Church and came to South Australia. My great-grandfather met and knew Ned Kelly.”
